HS DISTANCE LEARNING PROJECT
Objective: Students will work as individuals or collaboratively using google sheets, google docs, and google slides to complete a comprehensive report covering all subject areas taught at Woodland High School. This project is to extend learning beyond the classroom during the mandated distance learning during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic.
Participation: Student participation in this project is optional. All students are welcome to participate. Those students that elect not to participate, will receive their subject grades as of 3/12/20. Students are encouraged to participate through the use of technology, examples: computers, laptops, chromebooks, tablets and smartphones. However, if a student does not have access to these resources or the internet required to use these devices, a paper version of the assignment will be available to them for pick up at the HS office.
Scoring: Students will be able to earn not more than 10% extra credit in each class they are currently enrolled in. A rubric will be made available to students so they know the expectations of the project. Students must complete all areas of the project in order to receive credit, as well as present to the faculty and principal via Zoom meeting.
Topic: Faculty will develop questions specific to their subject area around the topic of the current global events which have led to distance education in Oklahoma.
Using data gathered from the current pandemic, create a data table for positive cases of COVID-19 in Oklahoma.
Create a line graph of the data you gathered. Your graph should be Cases vs Time.
Find the equation of the line and interpret the slope of the graph.
Create a second table and graph with data from the Spanish Influenza pandemic of 1918-1920 and compre the two.
Include all graphs, tables and comparisons in your google slide document.
Links available for good data points and research.
Research the meaning of “flattening the curve” to combat COVID-19
Explain why quarantine is being recommended and enforced in most countries.
Use only google scholar and/or reliable sources such as NPR, BBC, CDC and WHO and list all of the sources you use in this research.
There are a number of great Youtube videos explaining how this works, if you use any videos in your research you must check their sources, if they do not list any then they cannot be considered to be reliable.
List all sources used for all other sections of this project as well. The reliability of your sources for the other teachers will factor into your science grade.
Each group picks their own topic related to Coronavirus. Suggestions include “ Comparison of How Different Countries Have Handled Outbreaks” “What the U.S. is Doing to Cope with Covid-19” “Comparison of Coronavirus to Other Pandemics in History”
Each person in the group needs to play an equal role in the presentation.
A minimum of 3 reputable sources must be cited.
Each group will do research on how the Covid-19 pandemic compares to past pandemics throughout history.
Each person needs to do their own research and play an equal role in the presentation.
Students will use google sheets, google doc and google slides to work collaboratively to complete the assignment and prepare a presentation.
Students should utilize the technology components above to demonstrate computer proficiency.
When preparing slides for an audience, they should be clear and easy to read. The information should be easy for the audience to understand.
Each section (subject) should be presented on separate slides, sometimes you will need to use more than one slide to clearly convey all of the required content without crowding.
Feel free to use pictures, and links to make this presentation your own, but be sure to cite EVERYTHING you take from the web, this includes pictures.
References are required by ALL subject areas, you should put them all together at the end of this presentation.
Feel free to check out this link for some fun templates: Link to some fun slide templates
Explain what new outlets for music are rising out of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Explain what effect music has had on you and others during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Show a video of a parody or song that has become popular during the pandemic. Include this in your google slide document and cite your video sources at the end.
Discuss how the pandemic has influenced your family's buying choices of agricultural products.
Each group needs to research and discuss a section of Agricultural markets (ex. beef, pork, produce, etc.) and how this pandemic has influenced pricing and availability.
Each student should do their own research and show equal roles in their presentation.
Only reputable sources for research ( Farm Bureau, Department of Agriculture, scholarly research, etc.)
